ST.VINCENT DE PAUL

St. Vincent De Paul Society commenced its charitable services in our parish about 30 years ago. This organization grew up under the spiritual leadership of Rev. Fr. George Thelliankal CMF, who was the first Vicar of our parish and later progressed well with the encouragement and support of the succeeding Vicars.

The organization begins its meeting every Sunday at 4 pm under the leadership of the President for discussing the future course of action. The meeting begins with a reading from the Holy Bible and subsequently, the report is read on activities held in the previous weeks, followed by discussions and evaluating the performance of the organization, examining the requests of those seeking financial assistance, etc.

The activities that the organization currently undertakes include visiting the sick, visiting the homes of the deceased, praying and consoling their relatives, participating in the funeral service, and offering wreaths, etc.  There are many applications for financial assistance that reach the organization regularly, which it verifies and if found eligible/genuine, the organization adopts them. It fulfills the basic needs of families such as medicine, food, and educational expenses irrespective of caste and religion.

The organization reverently observes the feasts of St.Vincent De Paul and Frederick Ozanam around the 27th of September every year.  On the feast day, along with respected priests, trustees, adopted family members, auxiliary members, donors, and the family members of the organization-members jointly have lunch and present gifts to the adopted family members. At present, there are 13 adopted families in the organization.  The organization members along with priests visit orphanages/old age homes twice a year and offer donations as much as it could afford to do. The organization remembers and expresses its wholehearted gratitude to all priests who served the parish in the past and also the parishioners of St.Sebastian’s Forane church for all the help, support, and encouragement that they have been offering to the organization so far.
