Altar boys are the angels on earth assigned to stand around Jesus during Holy Mass. They have a privileged place in the liturgical celebration.
In the liturgy, Altar boys are far more than mere "helpers of the priest" but are servants of Jesus Christ, the eternal High Priest. They are called to be young friends of Jesus.
Altar boys serve Jesus present in the Eucharist generously. Every time they approach the Altar, they have the good fortune to assist in God's great loving gesture as He continues to give Himself to each one of us, to be close to us, to help us, to give us strength to live in the right way.
With consecration, the little piece of bread becomes Christ's body, and the wine becomes Christ's blood. Altar boys are lucky to be able to live this indescribable mystery from close at hand. They should not enter the church for the celebration with superficiality but rather, prepare themselves inwardly for Holy Mass and do this task with love, devotion, and faithfulness. A call to stand close to the Altar during the Holy Mass is like a call to stand at the foot of the cross at Calvary.
In St.Sebastian’s Forane Church, children from 5th to 12th class, who have received Holy Communion, are appointed as Altar boys. We remember and thank our team of Altar boys who have been serving in our parish from the establishment of this church to the present. We also congratulate the parents of the children and hope that more parents will come forward to encourage their children to understand the importance of Altar service.
Through the intercession of St. John Berchmans, the patron saint of Altar Servers, we pray that more and more children volunteer their time and talents for the Holy Sacrifice of Jesus.
